Will of Joseph Wright
- WILL OF JOSEPH WRIGHT from "Our Kin" pp.636-637
- In the name of God, Amen, I, Joseph Wright of the County of Bedford and the State of Virginia, being weak in body but of perfect sound mind and memory, do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following, to-wit:
- First, I give and bequeath unto my daughter Barsheba Simmons, wife of Joel Simmons, a tract of land lying in Franklin County on Staunton River, bounded by said river, Ball's line, and Bruff's Branch, containing one hundred acres, be the same more or less.
- Second, I give and bequeath to my grand-children--Jane Meadow, Jubal Meadow, Joseph Meadow, Judith Meadow, and John Meadow-children of my daughter, Nancy Meadow, dec'd, one negro girl, named Juggy to be equally divided between them with her future increase.
- Third, I give and bequeath unto my daughter Judith McCormack, wife of William McCormack, one negro girl named Tabb, to be by her possessed during her life, and at her death I give the said negro girl Tabb, and any increase she may have, to the lawful heirs of her body. I also give her one seal skin trunk.
- Fourth, I give to my daughter Patsy Mayse, one Iron Bound chest.
- Fifth, I give and bequeath to my three oldest sons, Thomas, John and Joseph Wright, and to my five daughters, Mary Greer, Agnes Mayse, Judith McCormack, Patsy Mayse, and Barsheba Simmons, and to the heirs of my daughter, Nancy Meadow, dec'd, one hundred and fifty acres of land in Franklin County whereon my son Joseph Wright now lives, also one hundred and thirty acres adjoining the same, called Ball's place to be equally divided between them.
- Sixth, All the balance of my estate, both real and personal of every description after the payment of my just debts and funeral expenses, I give and bequeath to my five sons, Thomas, John, Joseph, Matthew and Rite Wright, and to my five daughters, Mary Greer, Agnes Mayse, Judith McCormack, Patsy Mayse, and Barsheba Simmons, and to the heirs of my daughter Nancy Meadow dec'd, to be equally divided between them, respectively.
- Seventh, and lastly, I do hereby appoint my son Matthew Wright and my son-in-law James Mayse executors of this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all other or former wills heretofore by me made.
