JOSEPH WILLIAMS, Colonel, of Roxbury, Mass., b. 10th April, 1708; d. 26th May, 1798; Colonel in the Mohawk War, 1755, and the Canada Campaign, 1758-60; Member of the Massachusetts Provincial Council from Roxbury, 1760 to 1769; as representative of Roxbury urged the repeal of the Stamp Act; was one of the first members of the "Sons of Liberty," Chairman of the Committee that waited on Lieutenant Governor Hutchinson, after the "Boston Massacre," 7th March, 1770, demanding the withdrawal of the British Troops from Boston; Muster Master of the "Minute Men" for the town of Roxbury, 6th March, 1775; May, 1775, one of the officers of the "main guard" in camp at Cambridge; m. 23d March, 1732, Martha HOWELL, b. 28th February, 1712; d. 8th December, 1766; dau. of Henry and Martha (DEMING) HOWELL.

Esquire, being weak in body", dated 19 Oct 1792, proved 5 Jun 1798, lands in Roxbury and Brookline to son Henry Howell Williams first, and if refused then successively each of my four eldest sons, else sold, with equal payments among sons and daughters; to my grand son Joseph Williams who hath lived with me all that may be due to his mother; lands in Warwick to my sons Nathaniel Whiting Williams, Dudley Williams and Jeremiah Williams; sons Joseph and Samuel; Henry Howell Williams and Joseph Williams to be executors.
