    "Reverend Joseph Whipple, capt. William Whipple's half-brother, was born 31 July 1701 in that part of Ipswich, Mass. now known as the town of Hamilton to Matthew Whipple and his third wife Martha (Denison) Thing. He was graduated from Harvard's class of 1720 but remained in residence until September 1721 as a scholar of the house. He taught school at Chelmsford for three years before going to Hampton Falls where he was called to preach after a month's trial in October 1726. He was ordained by neighboring ministers 4 Jan. 1726-27 and married Elizabeth Cutt of Kittery 23 Oct. 1727."
