From a West family diary:

"Joseph West was my papa's father's name/ He was a North Carolinian, lived on Neuse River, near Newbern. He was a farmer and married a Miss Sarah Stanly. They had nine children that lived to be grown and married. My grandparents moved to bladwin County, Georgia, i guess in 1820, somewhere and grandpa died in 1835 after a few days of sickness plus age, over sixty years old. He was a good Christian, even tempered man and lived an honest, good, sober, industrious life with plenty and paid cash as he went with right good people."
