    Case 23157: Joseph Underwood 1691.

    Will of "Joseph Underwood though weake in body yet of sound mind and memory", dated 16 Feb 1690/91, proved 7 Apr 1691, mentions wife [not named], sons John and "ioseph" underwood, son Joshua [later "ioshua"], son "iohnathan" [also "ionathan"]; daughters "mari", elisabeth, sarah, and hanna. Thomas Hammond and wife to be executors.
    24 Mar 1691: Inventory of Joseph Underwood of waturtowne decesed. Sworn to by Tho. Hammond & Elisabeth Undrwood.

    [Note: no basis for the birth estimate is given. This source notes that father's probate mentions children "evidently not mentioned in the order of their ages". However, the will of their uncle Thomas here may well reflect reflect birth order: Joseph, Mary (1645), Martha, Hannah, Elizabeth, Sarah, Thomas (1658). Based on a first child b. 1673, his marriage is estimated to be about 1672, which suggests he was born by 1651, but the uncle's will suggests earlier than that, perhaps about 1643 or 1644. Possibly Joseph is mentioned out of order, being the eldest male, but his legacy is no larger than the other siblings, so probably not.]
