Joseph Torrence5 (Captain Samuel4Aaron3 Albert2 Sergeant Hugh1), was born in Fayette County, from which, after marriage, he, in company with a group of young neighbors, emigrated by wagon train through Wheeling, West Virginia and settled near Senecaville, Guernsey County, Ohio. He married Mary McCreary (born 1789, died 1868), daughter of John and Hilda (Green) McCreary. In her childhood, Hilda Green lived on the line of Washington's march between Trenton and Princeton, New Jersey, and witnessed the passing of his army to the battle of Princeton.
