"910. Capt. Joseph (Talcott), son of (455) Benjamin Talcott and Esther Lyman, was born in Bolton, Ct., June 31, 1728 [23 January 1727/28 per Bolton Vital Records], married Eunice, the daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth (Smith) Lyman, of Coventry, and sister of his brother Benjamin's wife (b. Sept. 4, 1733), Jan. 9, 1752, … Joseph Talcott, was a farmer in Coventry, and through his wife received a farm on 'Pond Hill,' where he lived and died. He was drowned in the Skankamug river, June 10, 1789. His epitaph on a stone in the old south burial ground of Coventry, reads thus:
'As the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare, so are the sons of men snared in an evil time.'"
