Joseph Staley was born in Ohio and died Monday, May 17th 1915, in Boone county at the home of his son, about five miles south of Boone. If he had lived until next August he would have been 86 years old. About sixty years ago he came with a team from Ohio and settled in Marcy township. The deceased was the father of fourteen children, nine of whom are living, namely, Jane Holbrook, Add Staley, Amy Williams, Lea Staley, Mary Platter, Sarah Adams, Shrill Cunningham, William Staley and Netta May Bennett. About a year ago his last wife preceded him in death. Many years ago the deceased was baptized and became a member of the Baptist church. He lived for over half a century in Marcy township, where he reared his large family. He was a good citizen, a kind neighbor, and above all a Christian. The sympathy of many friends goes to the family in this sorrow.
The funeral was held in the Baptist church in Marcy township at 2 p.m. Tuesday, where a large number of his old friends and neighbors gathered to pay their last respects to him whom they had known and loved. The service was conducted by Rev. Babcock, pastor of the Christian church of Boone. The music was furnished by Mrs. Lucy McPherson, Mrs. F.A. Mershon and Miss Nelson, all of Boone. Interment was made in Sparks cemetery.
