All show parents born New Jersey. {p.173a} There is a long history of Speer/ Spiers families in New Jersey. According to a query on the Rootsweb Speer Mailing list, Nutley was originally called 'Speertown'. John H. Speer is found living in Acquackanonk with the Jeremiah Fredericks family from 1870-1900, then with the daughter Catherine (Fredericks) Moore in 1910. He is listed variously as servant, boarder or other -- I would guess that he may be related to the family. They are listed on the same page as his parents and brother Arthur. |
