Facts and Events
1 CAST 2 DATE 30 AUG 2004 [edit] Joseph the husbandmanJoseph Spalding the husbandman (of John2, Edward1) should not be confused with Joseph the wheelwright (of Joseph2, Edward1). Though they had different fathers, these two men were called brothers because their wives were probably sisters. The wife of the former was Elizabeth, daughter of John and Elizabeth Colburn, and the wife of the latter was Mary who may have been daughter of John Colburn by his previous wife Susanna Read. (per: William H Manning, "Notes—SPAULDING," The New England Historical and Genealogical Register, (Oct 1909); online : AmericanAncestors.org (www.americanancestors.org), 63:379-381.) The children of the husbandman are clearly identified by his estate settlement. [edit] Estate of the husbandmanInventory of Joseph's estate was taken 5 Nov 1728 by Elizabeth Spaulding and John Spaulding with a value of £964:11:02. It stated: "The Account of Eliza Spaulding and John Spaulding admrs of the estte of Joseph Spaulding late of Chelmsford decd Intestate." The final settlement dated 6 Nov 1729 mentioned John Spaulding (executor along with widow Elisabeth) and Timothy Spaulding guardian to Simeon Spaulding and stated "It appeared unto us by a Receipt that Ebenezer Harris has Receved twenty eight pounds income toward the portion of his wife Elisabeth in the lifetime of the deceased ...." It was signed by Elizabeth Spaulding (her mark), John Spaulding, Hannah Spaulding (her mark), Timothy Spaulding guardian to Simeon Spauding, and Ebenezer Harris. References
