Husband of Nancy Snyder. Son of Daniel Snyder and Elizabeth McMahon.
Joseph and Nancy were married in 1840 were married in Ohio. After the death of their first child in 1842 they decided to move to the Illinois Territory. Joseph was a boat pilot and so the decided to move by boat down, going down the Ohio River, over to the Mississippi and up to Albany, Illinois, arriving there in 1844. They made the choice to go by boat since there were no established roads in that territory at the time, and there was a constant threat of attack by renegades and Indians if going by covered wagon. - From a biography written by Vera Snyder Murney
