Land Records in Virgina
- Joseph Rentfro acquired 500 acres of land in Frederick County which was part of the grant to Jost Hite. He apparently sold it to Abraham Van Meter before 21 September 1751, when Van Meter obtained a grant for it. - 10 November 1755 - Joseph Rentfro bought 285 acres on both sides of the south fork of the Blackwater River in Halifax County from Colonel Richard Randolph on 10 November 1755 which he conveyed to Joseph Rentfro, Jr.
- 19 June 1760 - This Indenture made this 19th Day of June one thousand seven hundred and sixty Between Robert Jones of Bedford County ... and Joseph Rentfro of the same County ... Witnesseth that the said Robert Jones for ... one hundred and fifty pounds ... Hath ... sold ... unto ... Joseph Rentfro ... 315 Acres in the County of Halifax on both forks of pig River ... - 18 April 1763 - Joseph Rentfro obtained patents for three tracts which had been surveyed for him in Bedford County, 140 acres on both sides of the Blackwater River, 245 acres on both sides of Balls Branch and 90 acres on the north side of the Blackwater, corner to land of Thompson.
- 1766 - Joseph Rentfro of Bedford County sold 236 acres on both sides of the north fork of the Blackwater River in Bedford and Halifax counties, to Moses Rentfro of Bedford County.
- 1772 - Joseph Renfro received a patent (Number 41) from King George III for 96 acres on the north side of the Blackwater in Bedford County in 1772. (Pittsylvania County, Virginia, [Source: Bedford County Deed Book 3, page 190].
- 13 October 1772 - Joseph Rentfro, Jr. and his wife Olive sold the 285 acres acquired from his father, Joseph Renfro, Sr., then in Pittsylvania County, to Joseph Stout. Witness: James Rentfro, Nicholas Alle (Hailey?) and Joseph Ellis witnessed the deed. [Source: Pittsylvania County, Virginia, Deed Book 3, page 190.]
- 1773 - Joseph Rentfro, Sr. of Bedford County sold 200 acres on both sides of the Black water River to James Callaway of the same place, for 50 pounds.
- 29 February 1776 - Joseph Rentfro, Sr. and his wife Mary conveyed 200 acres, on both sides of the Blackwater River, to James Callaway for 200 pounds, part of the land bought from Colonel Richard Randolph. Witnessed: Moses Rentfro, Isaac Rentfro and John Rentfro. - Dated: 14 November 1772
- To Mary my dearly beloved wife "her or my Bed and Furniture," my riding horse and her saddle, likewise her third part according to law. Likewise a young negro woman so long as she continues a widow.
- To my beloved son James Rentfro five shillings current money of this colony.
- To my beloved daughter Mary Jones five shillings current money of this colony.
- To my beloved son Joseph Rentfro five shillings current money of this colony.
- To my beloved son in law and daughter Moses Rentfro living and Hannah deceased five shillings current money of this colony.
- To my beloved son John Rentfro five shillings current money of this colony.
- To my beloved daughter Susanna Rentfro five shillings current money of this colony.
- To my beloved son William Rentfro a piece of land lying between the old survey and the pine tree, likewise an entry on each side. Also bequeathed a negro boy or girl.
- To my beloved son Joshua Rentfro the South side of this land on Black Water which I now live on likewise crossing the South Fork of Black Water through the Wild Meadow to the old line a straight course.
- To my beloved son Mark Rentfro the north side of this land on Black Water which I now dwell on. Likewise a survey.
- Also to my sons Joshua and Mark Rentfro an Entry south side of Black Water equally to be divided across according to their lines.
- I desire my goods and chattles may be sold at public sale and the value equally divided between my three youngest sons William, Joshua and Mark Rentfro saving the third part as before mentioned to my beloved wife Mary.

- Executor appointed with consent of all parties Present James Rentfro Jun & Joseph Rentfro my son John Rentfro and William all my sons.
- Proven: 25 March 1776 by oath of James Hunt at a Court held for the said County 22 April following further proved by the oath of Michael Dunn. James Rentfro, Junr., John Rentfro, William Rentfro granted administration with the will annexed.
