    Pages 164, 167 , 1891-92.

The West Virginia State Gazetteer and Business Directory for 1891-1892 contains an advertisement for "Joseph Nuzum, Practical Embalmer and Undertaker, 1852-1892."

This record gives one pause as it was published after the death of Joseph Nuzum. However, the Gazetteer had to prepared for printing in advance and it is possible that Joseph bought the advertisement before his death. It is also possible that others were continuing Joseph's business after his death under his name.

There is other evidence that Joseph Nuzum, the undertaker, is the same as the subject of this page. Joseph lists his occupation throughout his life as cabinet maker or furniture maker as seen in the census data, and the 1881-82 Gazetteer links his occupation as a furniture maker to his occupation as undertaker (see the previous footnote).

The U.S. census records for this time frame list only one other Joseph Nuzum in this area of West Virginia, and his occupation was "farmer."

Based on this information, this advertisement is believed to be about the Joseph Nuzum of this page.
