There are two possible christenings that would fit the age of the Joseph Norbury who married Mary Mottley in 1691:

- Joseph Norbury, chr. 1661 in Alderley, son of John and Mary

- Joseph Norbury, chr. 1669 in Alderley, son of Ralph and Margaret

This Joseph's first born son was named Joseph, suggesting that his father was Joseph as well. However, there is no christening for a Joseph, son of Joseph. Being as his first born daughter was named Mary, circumstance would suggest that he was the Joseph born in 1661 (as entered on this website). Nevertheless, it is ultimately a matter of speculation.

He may have been the Josiah Norbury (recorded here as his brother) born in 1664. This would make the age more acceptable for a marriage in 1691. Josiah was sometimes a synonym for Joseph.
