[edit] Obituary As Posted on Find A GraveObituary- Joseph Neil was born in York County Pa. , September 8, 1827. While but a small boy he removed with his parents to Ohio and settled in Wayne Co. where he grew to manhood and worked on his father's farm and learned the carpenter trade. In 1849 he was married to Sarah A. Bowen, who was born and raised in Richland Co., where he finally located on a farm in Bridgewater Township where he lived for a number of years and followed carpentering for a number of years during the summer season and held revival meetings in the winter. He finally gave his whole time to the ministry and for about forty years traveled over the Northwestern part of Ohio as an Itinerant minister and was successful in leading hundreds of men and women into the light of the gospel. Many are still living who were won to Christ through his singing and preaching the gospel. In 1887 having sold his farm he removed to Montpelier where he has since resided. Father Neil was the father of ten children, three of whom preceded him to the other shore. Three sons and four daughters still survive him. His companion, with whom he had lived nearly half a century, was called home nearly three years ago, since which time he has often expressed a desire to join those that had gone on before. He like Paul could say, for me to live be Christ and to die is gain. So although death came to him suddenly it did not find him unprepared for he had made all arrangements for his funeral, having selected his pall bearers, the Minster and the text so we can say of him as Jesus said of Lazarus, he is not dead but sleepeth, and was included with the number of whom it was said, "Be thou faithful unto death and I will give thee a crown of life." He departed this life at the home of his son, James A., Feb 6, 1907, aged 72 years, 4 months and 28 days. The funeral was held from the First U.B. Church , Montpelier , on Saturday Feb. 9, conducted by Rev. J. F. Slough and the remains were conveyed to the Heritage Cemetery for interment. To the kind friends, one and all, who assisted during the illness and burial of our beloved father, we hereby tender our heartfelt thanks.
