Birth: Donald White, Caldwell, Kansas gives April. FGS/Pedigree filled out by a Harris: immigrated March 1869/70. Joseph Mouttell owned land in Union twp, Clay, Kansas as shown in Historical Plat Book of Clay Co., Kansas, 1881, p. 63. "The Wakefield Colony" by Wm. J. Chapman, Kansas Publication A, vol. 10, pp. 485-532 shows Mr. Moutelle and family; from London were here in March, 1870, living and building in Wakefield. The first dwellings in town were those of Benjamin Moutelle and R. E. Cowdery on Third Avenue. J. Moutelle was advertized as a carpenter and builder on p. 499. Apparently the Moutelle farm as referred to in this source belonged to Benjamin Moutelle. Donald White says he was a Cordwainer and a Methodist. Had a boot and shoe shop in London and he and his wife were first cousins according to Frances Morehead. Ordinance Record of Joseph Mouttell, husband of Emma Elizabeth Seymour, birth <1825> cleared for baptism & endowment. This was from date Viola Call put into the ancestral file. Birth, Death and Marriage Items From the "Wakefield Advertiser" 1886-1887: Died-Joseph Mouttell departed this life after a long illness Oct. 15, aged 70 years. He was buried at Madura October, 16, Rev. F. Hoyes officiating. The deceased was born in Ipswich, England, and came to this country in 1870. He was one of the first settlers of Wakefield and built the first house. He was a member of the M. E. church, being one of the first in its organization and to the last was faithful in the discharge of duty. He was ready when the messenger came. Our loss is his gain. who is this?
