SACRED to the memory of the R[EV.] JOSEPH METCALF the first Pastor of the Congregational Church in this Town, who died Dec. 24, 1723, in the 42d. year of his age & the 16th. of his ministry.

Vol. 14, p. 134-135 29 Aug 1723: Inventory of Revere[n]d Mr Joseph Metcalf Deceased: not totaled, by Joseph Robinson, J. Parker, Joseph Hatch. 9 Sep 1723: Sworn to by Capt Hope Lothrop and Abiel his widow. £90 allowed to Mrs Abiel Medcalf widow for support of herself and eight children. Vol. 14, p. 279 Lebanon, 22 May 1725: Petition of Abiel Metcalf widow Relict to Joseph Metcalf Late of Fallmouth Deceased: Whereas Joseph Metcalf left seven children all minors and since his Death some months born another Child and was at his Deceased Indebted so far that almost all his moveable estate was taking for discharging the estate and the real estate sell for near £500 but only rent for 7 or 8, and said Abiel under great Difficulties, requests that real estate be sold, requesting only for herself one third of interest on proceeds. Vol. 14, p. 282 1 Apr 1726: Account of Hope Lothrop and John Metcalf administrators of Rev'd Mr Joseph Metcalfe Late of Fallmouth Deceased. Vol. 14, p. 276 1 Apr 1726: Account of Mes'rs Hope Lothrop of Falmouth and John Metcalf of Deadham is allowed and they are discharged.
