4. Joseph Hermann Meister (Joseph2, UNNAMED1). Born on 26 Dec 1848 in Flaence, Schweig-Holstein, Germany. Joseph Hermann died in Newark, Nevada, USA, on 6 Mar 1911; he was 62. Buried in Eureka, Nevada, USA.1 Occupation: Silver Miner.

Immigrated in 1878 according to 1910 census. Had brother and cousin, John and Charles, in West Point, Lincoln, Nebraska area. Was a miner. Name still on Geologic map for Newark Valley, Nevada; which is just east over the hill from Eureka, Nevada (in which he is buried with his wife).

On 1 Nov 1880 when Joseph Hermann was 31, he married Christina Anna Weiffen, in Eureka, Nevada, USA.2 Born on 15 Aug 1855 in Westphalia, Germany. Christina Anna died in Newark, Nevada, USA, on 19 Jun 1906; she was 50. Buried on 20 Jun 1906 in Buried at Eureka, Nevada, USA.1

 ... and of Joseph Meister holding claims where $30,000 had been taken. ...
 Joseph Meister was another unforgettable character.  He and his wife Mary
 reared seven children.  He owned a mine high on the mountain called the 
 Rosemary.  It was so high that a horse and buggy could be used only part
 way up the mountain, and the rest of the climb was made by "Shanks Pony."
 Meister was a German, and old-timers say he was severe and demanding.
 His daughters donned hobnailed boots and men's clothing to go into the
 mine and work like men.  They wore turbans over their long beautiful
 hair and sometimes did not get it combed for a week at a time.
