Joseph was part owner of the Warren Blacksmith Shop in Burke, Caledonia County, Vermont, between 1939 and 1945. Warranty Deed Vol 22, Page 68, and Vol 21, Page 293, shows the transfers. The tax list shows taxbeing assessed for these years.

Joseph served in the U.S. Army during World War I. There is indication in his veterans hospital papers that he had been previously marriedand divorced before marrying Mamie Ellen. According to his neice Lucille Dumont, Joseph had disappeared from the family for about ten yearsand none of his family had had any knowledge of his marriage to Mamienor of his two children.

The name of his possible first wife is Donalda (or Honalda) Belcour.
