Article in the Sunpaper August 19, 1856 - Tuesday:

"Shocking and fatal accident - An accident occurred yesterday in Lutherville, Baltimore County, by which Mr, Joseph Litzinger, who resided in Towsontown, met his death in a most horrible manner. He was engaged in digging ore in the ore banks near that place when the bank caved in and falling upon crushed him. As soon as possible he was extricated, when it was found that his breast was crushed in while his head presented a number of ghastly wounds and one of his arms was broken. He survived some 40 minutes after being taken out in great agony, when death came to his relief. He was aged 50 years and leaves a wife and twelve children to mourn his sudden and frightful death."

The wife of Joseph Litsinger, the former Ann Elizabeth Hook, is buried in Govans Presbyterian Church Cemetery, York Road, Baltimore, Md. The burial place of Joseph Litsinger is not known.
