Facts and Events
Joseph Kopczynski arrived in the Port of Baltimore on 30 April 1882, traveling with his wife, Marianne and daughter, Tekla, aboard the Nurnberg. The manifest lists Joseph as a Shoemaker traveling to Pittsburgh, PA. There are no records to substantiate his profession as shoemaker. Joseph, Marianne and Tekla set up residence in Allegheny City, presently known as the North Side of Pittsburgh. Joseph and his family were members of St. Stanislaus Kosta Roman Catholic Church in the strip district. When Tekla married in 1888, Joseph was required to grant permission for the marriage due to Tekla's age. The official document shows his signature on 13 Jan 1888. His wife, Marianne, is listed as a widow in the 1889 Pittsburgh & Allegheny City Directory. References
