Joseph was a charter member of Sons Creek Church of United Baptists, Dade County, Missouri on October 1848. This church dissolved in August 1850. He was a charter member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Dade County, Missouri on June 2, 1851. He served as church clerk and trustee.
