1 Jan 1716 Cornelius Howard of Annarundell County in the province of Maryland, Planter to Joseph Howard of the Same County and Province, planter. Witnesseth that the said Cornelius Howard for and in consideration of the Naturall affection and Brotherly Love which he hath and Doth bear towards the s’d Joseph as also for and in consideration of the Sume of Tenn pounds Sterling to him in hand paid Hath bargained and sold to him the s’d Joseph all title and interest property claime and Demand of and into the lands Left to the s’d Joseph Howard by his father Cornelius Howard Dec’d whereon the s’d Joseph Howard now Dwells. 2 July 1723 Joseph Howard of Annarundell County, Planter of the one part and Cor Brooksby of the same County, Butcher of the other part. Witnesseth that whereas Cornelius Howard of Ann’ll County Deceased by his last will and Testament bearing the date 15 Aprill 1680 Did give unto his said son Joseph Howard one hundred acres of Land out of patent called Howard’s Hardship Beginning at a Oak the other side of a branch Called Ead/Cad Branch Running West and by North to Hockley branch Swamp that Branch whilst it Intersects with Lancelot Todd’s Land So by that whilst it Intersects with John Dorsey’s land to a Long whilst it Intersects with Samuel Howards Land that was also the said Cor. Howard Deceased by his s’d will did Likewise give unot the Said Joseph Howard (his heir) a parcel of Land called Howards hope lying on the South Side of Severn River in Ann Arundell County according to patent … Now this indenture from Joseph Howard for the sum of Eighty Pounds sterling to him in hand paid doth herby sell and confirm to the said Cornelius Brooksby all of the two Tracts or parcells of land aforesaid being one hundred acres or thereabouts of Howards Hardship and one hundred acres more or less of Howard’s Hope except for forty foot of square ground reserved for where the late Joseph Howard’s former wife and some of his children are buried. Know Ye that I the said Joseph Howard for and in Consideration of the Naturale love and Affection which I have and bear unto my loving Sonse Henry Howard, Ephraim Howard, Cornelius Howard and Joseph Howard and unto my loving Daughter Sarah Howard … division of numerous slaves and household items with certain provisions [ie details about what he could still use and that they would look out for him etc.] Returned 18 Jul 1734 Wits. 7 July 1739 Margery Howard, "widow" disperses her property to her children naming Sons Cornelius, Ephraim, Joseph and daughter Sarah. Wits: John Burgoss and Martha (Macklefresh). Signed Margery (her mark) Howard and returned 7 July 1739 [Anne Arundel County Deed Book/Liber RD 3 p. 165]
