    On 31 March 1634 “John Hardy” was on a list of passengers sailing from Weymouth, co. Dorset, on the Recovery of London to New England. Based on this location the records of this family we recently discovered.

    The following records from the parish registers of Bridport, co. Dorset, are almost certainly for the immigrant’s family as they meet the criteria mentioned above.

    Note the will of “Elizabeth Harding dated 7 August 1654 gave to "Joseph Swasy" apparently a close relative.

    Joseph Hardy d. between 26 July 1688 (his will) and 14 December 1688 (will sworn by witnesses); m. by 1648, MARTHA — (baptism of eldest known child).12 The will of “Joseph Hardy Senr” gave to: “my sone James Hardy,” “my sone Wm Hardy,” “my daughter Hannah marshall,” “my grandsone Joseph Hardy,” “my daughter Elizabeth,” and “my welbeloved wife Martha.” He mentioned “my sone in Law Benja Pickman” and appointed his wife executrix.13 His widow was living on 14 January 1695/6 (her son William’s will)
