Joseph Grant came to the county with his father when he was less than six years of age. The family settled on Neversink Flats before there were white inhabitants in Liberty. In 1812, he located in the latter town, where he remained until he died, in May, I860. He was in every respect a worthy citizen, and enjoyed public confidence. At one time he was Sheriff of the county, and for several years was a Judge of the Court of Common Pleas. He left a large and respectable family. At the time of his death, one of his sons, (Robert Young Grant) was a Senator.

    Came to Sullivan county with his father about 1793. Married Susannah Young in Neversink and moved to Liberty in 1812. Served as the Sullivan County Sheriff and a Judge on the Court of Common Pleas for a number of years.
