    Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 5, 2006, in Coffelt's Funeral Chapel.

    Pastor Dan Moore of Laclede Community Church will officiate. Interment, with military honors, will be in Pinecrest Memorial Park.

    Friends may call to pay their respects on Thursday afternoon, May 4, at Coffelt Funeral Service from noon-6 p.m.



    Joe was born in Kansas City, Mo., on Sept. 26, 1923, moving to California at the age of 10. He graduated from high school in Paramont, Calif.

    During World War II he served with the U.S. Navy SeaBees. He was with the 81st Battalion that landed in Normandy and also with the 121st Battalion landing at Okinawa.

    He graduated from Long Beach State College in 1950, and moved to Cocolalla, Idaho, in 1951.

    He married Jeanne Hax on Sept. 29, 1974, and moved to Laclede in 1976.

    Joe taught junior high school for Bonner County schools until his retirement. He enjoyed working on his property, logging, clearing his land and running his equipment. He enjoyed helping, and working with, his neighbors.

    He was a member of the Laclede Community Church and the VFW in Sandpoint.

    He is survived by two cousins, Bill Strange of Nashville, Tenn., and Debra Grant of Laclede.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jeanne in 2003, and a brother, Ned Hairgrove.

    Memorials may be made to the Panhandle Animal Shelter in memory of Joe Evans.

    Funeral arrangements are under the care of Coffelt Funeral Service.
