A Miner named Joseph Conn, residing in Pitt street, was removing a wire nail this morning when a small piece of steel struck him in the right eye, the sight of which is slightly impaired.

The death took place on Saturday from miner's complaint of Mr. Joseph Conn, aged 53 years. He was for many years underground manager, and for a time acting manager, of the Garden Gully United mine.

LATE MR. JOSEPH CONN.
The. remains of the late Mr. Joseph Conn were yesterday interred in the Methodist portion of the Bendigo Cemetery. The funeral left his late residence in Pitt- street and was attended by a large number of friends. The coffin-bearers were Messrs. L. Wetzel, W. Ogilvie, R. Makepeace and J. Simpson. The pall-bearers were members of the I.O.O.F. lodge. namely. Bros. F. Widmer. P. G.; E. Noy. J. T. Dyer. N.G., and W. Hollingworth, P. G. Many choice floral artificial tributes were received, including a wreath and glass case from Myer's. en. and artificial and floral tokens from Mrs. Tyack and family, H. M. Leggo's staff. M. and J. Gray. Mrs. Makepeace, Mrs. Gough. Mrs. O'Brien, and Mrs, Carter. The hymms, "Rock of Ages" and "Abide With Me" were sung by those present at the grave. The Rev. A. E. Wollard held a brief but impressive service at the home and he had officiated at the grave. where he delivered a very touching address. The deceased gentleman who was 53 years of age, was born in Bendigo, where he resided all his life with the exception of eleven years spent in New South Wales. He was very popular amoungst a large circle of friends. Much sympathy is felt for the bereaved widow and family of three son and two daughters in the loss of a loving and devoted husband and father. Mr. W. H. Oakley carried out the funeral arrangement.
