Joseph was born to Mary Ann (Lovell) and Martin Comer in Lamaur, Missouri on July 29, 1901. Due to Martin's job as a Railroad track foreman, the family travelled across the western US, including El Paso, Texas during Pancho Villa's Revolution. Joe graduated from 8th grade in Clarkdale, Arizona. Joe met Olene in Glendale, and they "courted" in the orchard near Olene's house. Joe and Olene were married August 4, 1933 in Prescott, Arizona. During the depression, Joe worked for the US Forest Service near Jerome, Arizona. He was a Fire Lookout and spent weeks at a time at the outpost on Mingus Mountain. He was there during the birth of his first and only child, and was notified by mail by his mother, Maryann. Joe eventually became a Locomotive Engineer for Santa Fe Railroad, where he would work until he retired. References
