Joseph Clark married Elizabeth Karnes 25 February 1793 in Bedford County, Virginia. Elizabeth Karnes is listed with Joseph Clark in the 1810 and 1820 censuses of Bedford County. Joseph Clark married (2) Susannah Lockett on 15 Jun 1824 Bedford County, Virginia. Susannah is the wife listed with Joseph in the 1830 census. In the 1850 Federal census of Bedford County, Joseph Clark, age 80, is listed with two of his daughters Mary age 21 and Susan age 16. Next door is his son Isham Clark age 24. Joseph wrote his will in 1849, [Bedford County Will Book 13, page 493] naming his four children Isham, Mary, Elizabeth, and Susan. On 2 November 1850 he added a note that his daughter Elizabeth [wife of William H Dewitt] was now deceased leaving a son Joseph C. Dewitt. On 25 Nov 1850 the will of "Joseph Clark deceased" was recorded in court. All four of the children named in Joseph Clark's will were the children of his second wife Susannah.
