BIOGRAPHY: From Joseph Carpenter's Memorial page on Findagrave.com Joseph, according to his pension application, was born in Cranston, Rhode Island on April 2, 1756 and enlisted at East Greenwich, Rhode Island for military service during the period of March 1, 1776 to the winter of 1779. His service of 16 months was performed in Capt. Spencer's and Capt. Sullivan's expeditions. Like so many other families, all his sons with the exception of Charles, left the farm and migrated into the new lands of northeast Pennsylvania. Joseph and Esther remained on the Carpenter Road Farm, where many of their family were buried, until their death. They had eleven children. |
