Children of Henry Browne and Waite Waterman: 4) Joseph, d. 20 Jul 1749, m. (1) Sarah Pray, m. (2) 17 Jun 1728 Abijah Whitman. 2nd wife, no issue. 12 Aug 1742: Richard Brown took administration on estate of Joseph Brown of Smithfield, "having whole right by law".
[Austin combines two Josephs into one person, the s/o of Henry, and the s/o of Jeremiah. Clues are present even in his own presentation. For one thing, why would the brother Richard get administration when, according to Austin, there were sons old enough (Stephen b. 1715, so age 27 in 1742)? This might, however, happen if those sons actually belonged to another man, such as the Joseph who Austin says d. 12 Mar 1764 and whose will names among others, a son Stephen. So the father of Stephen was the son of Jeremiah, who d. 1764, and m. Sarah Pray while the son of Henry m. Abijah Whitman. Other errors include "2d wife, no issue" since Providence records show the birth of two girls to Joseph and Abijah (who would have still been minors in 1742), including significantly, a daughter named Wait.]
