Darren, I saw the obituary for Grover Benintendi that you posted. He is the son of Joseph Andrew Jackson Benintendi, son of Mary and Francisco, who went by the name "Jackson" or "Jack". He was a deaf-mute from the time he was a young child. He had scarlett fever as a child and the wet clothes they put on this forehead had water trickling down into his ears, wherein the water accumulated and the fever caused his eardrums to burst, leaving h deaf. As a young man he went to the Mo. School for the Deaf, and learn the shoe repair trade. He met his wife Nancy at the school. She was also deaf-mute. Grover was their first child. With deaf parents who did not talk, Grover didn't learn to talk early like most children. His cousins helped him and when his sister Dolly was born she helped him. He was a quiet person needless to say. Family stories go that when Grover was young and would meet someone on the street and they would say "HI, GROVER" then he would say "HI, GROVER" right back to them. Well, even with those disadvantages, he turned out to be a good man, and a productive citizen. Grover's first wife was Genevieve ___ from TX. She died several years ago with cancer. They had two tall, dark haired, very beautiful daughters, Gail born about 1946 and Carol born a couple of years later. EMail if you have any questions. Thanks for forwarding the obit and pictures. I don't take the newspaper as I'm gone so much, so I appreciate it very much. Wanda |
