Joseph Tyler Allyn, Pvt. Co. H, 16th Va. Light Artillery Appointed Drill Master of NC troops in late 1861. Enlisted March 10, 1862, at Sewell's Point as a Pvt. in Co. H, 16th Va. Light Artillery Sgt. in Spring 1863. Discharged May 25, 1863, and appointed 2nd Lt. in Col. A.S. Cutt's artillery battalion. Served as ordnance officer for the rest of the war. Paroled at Appomattox as 1st Lt., Ordnance officer, in Lt. Col. Hardaway's artillery battalion. Lawyer and public official. Graduated Washington College in 1860, and was at UVA from 1860-61. At UVA from 1867-68 for law. |
