In July 1844, Jonathan Barcroft died leaving "to my grandson, Ambrose Bell, son of John and Ailey Bell", the sum of three hundred dollars to be paid to him when he reached the age of twenty-one. On February 7, 1852, Ambrose's grandmother Jane Barcroft, left "to my Grandson Ambrose P. Bell" fifty dollars.
