"Jonathan, whose estate lay over on the Merrimack lands far away from the Holt and Wardwell farms, had accumulated 1,000 pounds and got the lion's share of the Wardwell hills and swamps with a plot on the Boston Road called the 'Streights'." (Charlotte Helen Abbott)

1756, Sept. 5 - "Boston Gazette"- "On Saturday, the 21st of last month, at Night, the House of Mr.John [sic] Wardell at Andover was burnt to the Ground, with household Furniture, wearing Apparel and all that was therein consumed excepting the Family, who, with great Difficulty, escaped with their lives."(Note: Jonathan's brother, John, was not married at the time, so the story must have been about Jonathan, his wife, and four children.)

In October 1773, 3 of Jonathan's children died, probably from an infectious disease. 19 October 1775, Jonathan and Rachel joined the Andover South Church.
