Jonathan and Nancy Ann were married by Rev. James E. Stone, Pastor of the United Baptist Church in Hancock County, KY.

On January 2, 1849, Jonathan and Nancy Ann Sawyer purchased the one-third interest in the 150 acres of land in Benoni S. Lamar's estate from Daniel McCarty Payne of Fayette County, Kentucky for $2,500. Thus, they became the sole owner of the entire estate (150 acres) left by Benoni S. Lamar to his heirs. It was located along the Ohio River nearly opposite the town of Troy, Indiana.

In 1855, the entire farm was sold to Daniel McCarthy Payne of Fayette County, Kentucky and Nancy Ann and Jonathan Sawyer moved to Cloverport, Kentucky.
