    One of the early settlers of Pleasant Grove Twp., died Friday at the Rochester State Hospital of old age. He had been unwell for several months and it was found necessary about three months ago to commit him to the State Hospital, where he remained until his death occurred. The funeral took place from the former home of the deceased in Pleasant Grove, Sunday forenoon at 11 o'clock. The body was interred in the Pleasant Grove cemetery.

    Jonathan D. Parks, a native of Indiana, son of German parents, was born in 1835. He remained at the parental home until twenty-one years of age. He became a farm hand and share farmer until 1855 when he purchased eighty acres in Section 29, Pleasant Grove Township, Olmsted County, Minnesota Territory. This he managed until 1904.
    He married Abigail Collins in 1856. Their children were: F. Marion, John Lewis, and Rollin B. The family were members of the Disciples of Christ (Christian) Church in Pleasant Grove village and were active in all aspects of church life and progress.
    Abigail C. Parks died in 1867. Jonathan D. Parks died June 30, 1913. They were buried ‘neath the evergreens they loved in Union Cemetery at Pleasant Grove.
