  • 1777 - Rev. Jonathan Ingersoll asks the Board of Selectmen of the town of Ridgefield to approve the freeing of his slave, Cyphax, age 20, which they did. Under colony law, the selectmen had to make sure the freed person would not be a burden on the town.
