He married for his first wife, November 7, 1734, Elizabeth, daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Drake) Rockwell, … He married for his second wife, August 7, 1754, Mrs. Sarah Norton, who survived him, dying February 19, 1788. … 'He was from early life to the time of his death, an ornament and a successful practitioner of physic.' … He was, in 1752, a member of the lower house of the Colonial Legislature, and its speaker. He was an Assistant or member of the Upper House of the Connecticut Council from 1754 to 1758, … the period of his membership was a trying period of our colonial history—that of the sanguinary French War. In May, 1749, he was appointed a Justice of Quorum, and as such had a seat on the bench from the June term 1749 to 1754, when he was appointed Chief Judge, and held this office until June 1757."
