I have just returned from a research trip to Washington Co VA and while working on my Brittain/Britton line found information on the Montgall line.It seems that Jonathan Brittain had a daughter (name unknown) who married a Richard Montgall. In the Guardian Bonds 1780-1872 of Washington Co VA is found where Jonathan Brittain is posting bond Aug 21 1798 (p 35) to be the guardian of the orphans of Richard Mountgall:children named:Brittin, Elizabeth, Richard, Robert, Sirus, William. In May 1810, Richard comes into court and Samuel Baldridge is appointed his guardian and in Aug 1811, Elizabeth comes into court and Robert Huston is appointed her guardian. In the Washington Co Va Will Book 3 p 164, (Nov 15 1808)it states that Robert and Cyrus have each received their legacy of $55.55.In The Washington Co VA Will Book 4 p 7 (Dec 15 1812) is found where William Montgall states that he has received his legacy from his grandfather, Jonathan Brittan, of $55.55 plus the legacy of his brother Brittin. The math works out to assume that Brittin has died and his legacy of $55.55 was then to be divided 5 ways between the remaining siblings.Jonathan Brittain had lived in Montgomery Co VA and then moved into Washington Co VA. Perhaps those researching this line could check the records of Wythe and Montgomery Co for information on Jonathan Brittain.Jonathan bought his first property in Washington Co VA in 1796 (Deed Book 1 p. 465).He sold his 320 acres in Montgomery Co (Deed Book C p 438) to Drury Holland in 1800. Other information on the settling of the Montgall estate is found in Washington Co Va Will Books: 2/135, 2/121, 2/310-311, 2/386, 3/164, 4/7. I hope this helps those researching this Montgall family from the Wythe/Washington Co VA area.

I recently saw an email you sent indicating that you have interest in a Britton family.I have been searching for sometime for a Britton woman who married John Rogers (b. 1757 probably in Culpeper Co, VA).Unfortuneately, I do not have her first name. She married John in about 1776 probably in Montgomery (now Wythe) Co, VA. She may have been the daughter of Jonathan Britton who on 2 Oct 1800 gave his son, William Britton, of Washington Co, VA power of attorney to sell 320 acres of land on Little River in Montgomery Co.Wit. And'w Russell and C. Watkins. Other children of Jonathan and siblings of William may have been: Elizabeth Britton (born ca 1765), married Joseph Rogers (born ca 1760). ______ Britton who married John Rogers as discussed above John Britton Joseph Britton Nathaniel Britton James Britton
