http://www.tudorplace.com.ar/ZOUCHE.htm John ZOUCHE of Codnor (Sir Knight) Born: ABT 1585, Codnor Castle, Derbyshire, England Died: 1639 Notes: member of the Virginia Company (1621-23). In 1631 the king appointed Sir John to devise a plan of government for Virginia. He and his son sold Codnor Castle, it manor, and the rest of their estates in 1634, and went to Virginia. In Virginia they unsuccessfully attempted to set up some iron works, probably on Falling Creek in Henrico County. A patent at the place to Thomas Ellis 7 May 1638 mentions land “lately belonging to Sir John Zouch, Kt.”. Sir John died in England (will dated 30 Aug 1636 - 4 Dec 1639) leaving his land to his son and other property to daughters. His son served as sole administrator of his will. He held land in Virginia by 20 Oct 1642 when a patent to Abraham Wood mentioned land, “west upon land of John Zouch”. John served in the House of Burgesses from Henrico County (1644).
