[Note: no evidence of the first marriage has been found. There is a John Walton or Watton in Warwick in the 1790 census (middle column about 2/3 way down the column) that seems to match but no Warwick records for him seem to exist. Some of the claimed children can be found as adults, but no evidence of a relationship to John is apparent. This marriage has not been entered and is left for a future poster who may have more solid evidence.]

20 Dec 1825: Account of Mark Woodward, admr on John Walton late of Northfield, allowed.

  5. The Warwick marriage record to Betsy Farnsworth clearly says Watton, which suggests it was taken from the birth location. The Northfield records say Wotton, as does the gravestone, or Wootton. The probate appears to say Walton and some of the descendants seem to use Walton. One or two of the records even resemble Watson. In colonial handwriting, the difference between these spellings can be hard to distinguish. Were both t's crossed or just the second? Was that an 'o' or 'a' as the second letter.
