On August 21, 1812 John Wiley and his brother William purchased land (unknown whether together or separately) at Range 12, Township 01, Section 19 of the "Between the Miami River Survey" in Montgomery County, western Ohio.

In his will he mentions his brother Samuel, and the will was witnessed by a William J. Wiley. John refers to his wife and children in the will but does not give their names. John also mentions his mother, who was still living when the will was written. There is a statement to the effect that the relatives of John's wife are to have no portion of his estate.
