The Gibsonburg Derrick Gibsonburg OH Thursday, 28 June 1900, page 1, column 3. An Old Pioneer Passed Away at His Home Last Thursday: John F Wichman, one of our oldest and most highly respected citizen s, died at his home between Gibsonburg and Woodville, where he had lived for ov er 56 years, aged 63 years, 2 months, 19 days. He was born in Ger and came to th is country when but seven years of age, and has lived on the same spot ever since. He leaves a wife and five Children; three boys, John, Henry and Eddi e, two daughters, Mrs. H.C {Sophia} Schmidt, who resides in Richmond, IN and Eliz a, besides an adopted daughter, Emma. The children were all present when he d ied. The funeral took place from the German Lutheran Church at Woodville, c onducted by Rev. Raether. He was a member of the Woodville congregation, and had be en all his life. He was a man who had worked very hard and had accumulated a cons iderable amount of property, being always honest and upright in his dealings with h is fellowmen. His funeral was one of the largest seen here for a long time, as he w as widely known and highly respected. Just two years previous to the day he di ed he suffered a stroke of paralysis, from which he never recovered. About three weeks pr ior to his death he had another light stroke, from which he suffered greatly.
