JOHN WAY is the eldest of this line, that we know of, so far. Some of his descendants settled in an area of Wabash County, between Roann and Urbana (neither village existed yet) in an area which "White Creek" calls a "cluster". It was sometimes called the "Gamble Settlement". These people were the first settlers in the area. They settled in circa 1838, just as the last of the native population was forced out. These new people for the most part, were of a population which had lived in the USA for many generations. They established mostly Presbyterian and Christian Churches in the area. Besides Way, other surnames of these people who seemed to associate together, were: Amber, Baker, Dunfee, Gamble, Jack, Joy, McCoy, Hoover, Vanduyne, and others. In later years they began to intermarry with the German speaking pioneers who soon followed (1848+). Some ten years later (1848+), adjacent to their farms on the east, came the mostly recent Palatine immigrants - many from Tuscarawas County, Ohio. They mostly settled around the future Urbana, and over into Huntington County. They were mostly of the "German Reformed" faith. These people are the focus of "White Creek's" research, and most of his WeRelate.org postings. John Way's g-grandson was John P. Baker, who married Mary Ann Sloop. Mary Ann had 3 husbands (not all at the same time!), one of which was Philip Moore. Their son was Samuel Moore. His daughter was Rosa Marie Moore, who married Carl Homer LOWER, who was the brother of Herman P. LOWER, "White Creek's" grandfather. --White Creek 15:46, 6 June 2017 (UTC) References
