John returned from England to inherit his grandfather Ezekiel Holliman's estate, at the request of the latter, who sent for him. It was ordered by Town Council of Providence that the care of young John be transferred to Mr. Holliman, with his father's house at Warwick and all other rights belonging to his father. He was apprenticed to William Field of Providence for seven years.
