Wardell, Lt. Col. U.S. Army Ret. : Wampler, John - born 10/22/1761 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, where he entered service in 1776 as wagon train driver to haul ammunition for troops; moved in 1783 to Wythe County, Virginia where he applied for Pension in 1834 & Pension Application Rejected, service not considered military, per current Pension laws; Henry Wampler (no kinship given) & John Stanger made affidavit then that they were neighbors of soldier there, per County Clerk of Court John P. Mathews & his deputy clerk A.B. Moore; query letter in file says soldier died abt. age 80, granted Bounty Land Warrant for Revolutionary War service. F-R11109, R2486.
