My Great Grandmother Martha(VanPelt)Pinkerton parents were John C. & Elizabeth Carper VanPelt. She was born on a farm in the Overman settlement near Hillsboro, Oh around 1858. She was one of eight children. They moved to Illinois where they lived until the end of the Civil War then moved back to Ohio at Clear Creek near Hillsboro and then bought a farm at New Vienna. My Great Grandmother's family were early settlers in Virginia, settling in Fincastle where her GGGrandmother was captured by the Indians. In order to save her life {Rebecca Nevel}was forced to marry a Chief, gave birth to a daughter named White Lily. During the different moves that the tribe made she found a landmark near Fincastle and managed to escape leaving the child behind.
