John, the son of Richard Upchurch, probably was the John living in NewKent County, VA, during the early seventeen hundreds. New Kent liesjust north of Surry County, across the James River. The followingentries in the Register of St. Peter's Parish Church, in that county,are strong indications taht such was a fact: Elizabeth, daut. of Jno. Upshew, bapt. ye 25 Dec. 1701. Sarah, daut. of Jno. Upshew, bapt. ye 15 Oct. 1707 Trypena, daut. of Jno. Upshear, bapt. 13 Apr 1709. John Upshiere, Jr. departed this life ye 13 April 1713. John Upchurch was next on record in Surry County, VA., when he tookthe Inventory and Appraisement of othe estate of William Hunnicutt onthe 19th of July, `1721. His signature: John XX Upchurch. (Surry County, VA., Wills & Adms. 1712-1730, pt. 2, pg. 150). John Upchurch witnessed the Will of John Vaughan on the 9th of Feb.1936, wife Eleanor, signing with the same HH mark.
