Obituary:

SHREVEPORT - John L. Tullis, Jr. died on Sunday, October 22, 2000. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 25th at First United Methodist Church, Couch Chapel with Dr. Pat Day and The Rev. William F. Mayo officiating. Visitation will follow the service in the parlor of the chapel.

Mr. Tullis was born May 9,, 1911 in Quannah, Texas. He graduated from the University of Texas in 1934 with a degree in Electrical Engineering, and played on the basketball team for four years.

After graduation he worked for several major companies in Texas, then in 1947 joined the J.B. Beaird Co. in Shreveport as Sales Manager. In 1959 he became General Manager and President when Beaird was purchased by AMF and became AMF Beaird, and under his leadership AMF Beaird branched out to other parts of the country. In 1967, Mr. Tullis expanded AMF Beaird by building a large refinery and storage plant in Belfast, Ireland, that same year he was promoted to President and Chief Operating Officer of AMF in New York City.

During his years in Shreveport, he served on numerous boards and received many honors as well as numerous honors and awards from AMF, University of Texas and other clubs and associations. Mr. Tullis retired as President AMF Beaird and returned to Shreveport in 1975 where he served as General Manager of Interstate Electric until retirement.

He is a member of First United Methodist Church where he served on the board as a member of the Finance Committee.

Mr. Tullis was preceded in death by his parents, John L. and Carol Horton Tullis; and his sisters, Mrs. W.D. White and Helen Tullis. He is survived by his wife, Bettye Bishop Tullis; three stepsons, Tom, Alan and Jeff Winston; one nephew, W.D. White, Jr.; and numerous grand nieces and nephews.
